Terms of service
Sojourners & Exiles
Effective November 2, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Sojourners and Exiles, Inc. ("we", "us") about the Sojourners & Exiles app and the website at joinexiles.com (together, "the app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Who can use the app
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to use the app. You are responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Give us accurate information and use one account per person.
2. Membership and payment
Some of the app requires a paid membership.
- Billing through Apple. Memberships are sold through Apple's App Store and charged to your Apple ID. Apple handles payment and refunds under its own terms.
- Automatic renewal. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) at the price shown when you subscribed, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trial. If a free trial is offered and you are eligible, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Cancelling. You can manage or cancel your membership at any time in your iPhone's Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Price changes. If the price changes, Apple will tell you before it applies to your membership, as Apple's rules require.
Coins, outfits and other items you earn in the app have no cash value, can't be sold or transferred, and are not refundable.
3. Community rules
Brotherhoods exist so men can encourage, sharpen and hold each other accountable. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. In the War Room, in nudges, in your name, calling, goals, Brotherhood names and anything else other members can see, you agree not to post or send:
- Pornography, sexual content, or sexual messages of any kind.
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or intimidation.
- Hate speech or slurs, or content that demeans anyone for their race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, disability or any other protected trait.
- Content that encourages violence, self-harm or illegal activity.
- Spam, scams, advertising or links to harmful sites.
- Another person's private information, or anything you don't have the right to share.
- Impersonation of anyone else.
You can report any message by long-pressing it, and block any member so you no longer see his messages. Every report goes to our team. We review reports within 24 hours, and when content breaks these rules we remove it and may remove the member who posted it from the Brotherhood or the app.
4. Your content
You own what you write and create in the app. You give us permission to store, display and process it only as needed to run the app, for example to sync your progress and to show what you choose to share with your Brotherhood. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for reported content we keep for safety as described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Your photo and your avatar
Making an avatar from a photo is optional. Only use a photo of yourself, and only one you have the right to use. Your photo is sent to our image provider to draw your avatar and is not kept. The avatar is drawn by an AI model, so it is a stylized likeness and may not look exactly like you; you can try again within the app's daily limit or use the standard avatar.
6. Not a substitute for professional help
Sojourners & Exiles is a tool for spiritual growth, discipline and brotherhood. It is not medical care, counseling, therapy, addiction treatment, or pastoral care, and it does not replace your church, a pastor, or a licensed professional.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, in the US) or call 911. The app also shows the 988 Lifeline in Settings.
7. Scripture
Scripture quotations are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved.
8. Our app and your license
The app, including its art, characters, writing, design and software, belongs to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and the App Store's Usage Rules. Don't copy, modify, resell, reverse-engineer, scrape, or try to break or overload the app, or get around its limits or security.
9. Changes to the app
We are a small team building something new. We may add, change or remove features. If we make a change that takes away something you paid for, we will try to tell you first.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or end your account if you break these terms, especially the community rules, or if we have to by law. If we end your account for a reason other than a breach of these terms, you can ask Apple for a refund under its policies.
11. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your needs. Your progress in the app is not a measure of your standing before God.
12. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live requires otherwise.
14. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. In addition:
- Responsibility. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- License. Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow.
- Support. We are solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any.
- Warranty. If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims by you or anyone else relating to the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- Intellectual property. If anyone claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending and resolving that claim.
- Legal compliance. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party terms. You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.
